Kids Who Care Announces 2009 Summer Season Schedule

Musical Theatre Company to Present “Godspell” and Debut New Original
Production “District 11 – Believe in Me!”

FORT WORTH, TX – May 11, 2009 – Kids Who Care, a non-profit international theatre company based in Fort Worth, announces its 2009 summer musical season schedule.  The musical theatre company will present Godspell June 26-28, 2009 followed by District 11 – Believe in Me! July 30-August 2, 2009 at the Scott Theatre in Fort Worth.

Dates and details for each Kids Who Care summer performance are provided below.

Godspell
In June, Kids Who Care Musical Theatre will present the classic musical Godspell, with a twist – it will be set in current time, at the corner of Houston and 4th Street in Fort Worth’s Sundance Square.

“When we produced Godspell in 2002, we set the show in an empty warehouse,” said Deborah Jung, founder and executive director of Kids Who Care. “This time, we’ll find ourselves in the center of Fort Worth, at 4th and Houston.  Every kind of person – resident or visitor, affluent or homeless, jogger or cowboy – can be found crossing this corner. This eclectic mix of people is a great place to watch a community find itself, grow and stand for something. It’s also a fabulous way for the audience to see themselves in this timeless story.”

Godspell dates and show times are as follows:
• Friday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m.
• Saturday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m.
• Sunday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m.

District 11 – Believe in Me!
July 30 through August 2, Kids Who Care Musical Theatre will present District 11 – Believe in Me!, a new original musical inspired by the popular YouTube video of a 10-year old’s keynote speech to the Dallas ISD teachers and staff last year, imploring them to believe in themselves and their students. The show’s cast will include area youth plus international students who have traveled from around the world for an intensive theatre experience at Kids Who Care.

“When our staff first saw the ‘Do You Believe in Me?’ YouTube video, we knew we had to share it with the kids and teens in our Resident Company,” said Jung. “When we did, it touched a chord so deep and created such a buzz that it immediately became the central theme to our next original musical. Not only will Kids Who Care’s District 11 be fun and entertaining, but it will also be a catalyst for powerful, productive and creative conversations about our current education system.”

District 11 dates and show times are as follows:
• Thursday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.
• Friday, July 31 at 10:00 a.m.
• Friday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday, August 1 at 2:00 p.m.
• Saturday, August 1 at 7:30 p.m.
• Sunday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m.

Ticket prices for the summer musicals are $12 to $18 and $10 each for groups 10 or more. Friday and Saturday night shows are $18 for adults and $15 for youth aged 15 and under.
