Todd Hart to Direct Largest Youth Cast in Theatre Arlington History

For more than eight years, Theatre Arlington has been producing quality children’s shows cast and crewed entirely by youth between the ages of 8 and 18. This year, Executive Producer Todd Hart is directing the largest youth cast to take the stage at TA. February 26 – March 14, 30 young people, ages 9 to 18 will dazzle audiences of all ages with their talent, tempo and tunes under the tutelage of Hart.
Seussical Jr is a compilation of several popular children’s books penned by Theodor Seuss Geisel, otherwise known as the beloved Dr. Seuss. Favorite characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant and Gertrude McFuzz transport the audience from such colorful and captivating places as the Jungle of Nool to Circus McGurkus and the tiny world of the Whos. At the end of the journey, Horton learns the importance of faithful friends, persistence and loyalty – lessons that will surely not be missed by the audience after laughing and crying with him through his many adventures.
After 47 books, eleven children’s television specials, a Broadway musical and two motion pictures have been fashioned after his colorful characters, the popularity of Dr. Seuss is without question. Not to be outdone, Seussical’s popularity is soaring. Seussical was the most produced musical in American high schools in the first year of its availability and the show ranks among the top three most licensed properties.
Though Theatre Arlington is producing the Jr version of this well-liked show, they are in no way mounting a less than grand performance. That is evident in Hart’s 30 person cast. Energetic and enthusiastic to perform, each cast member takes a cue from Horton, and are faithful 100 percent in bringing the fantastical world of Seuss to life.
Seussical Jr. runs February 26 – March 14, 2010 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Following the performance on Friday, Feb. 26, theatre-goers will enjoy an opening night reception catered by Buck n’ Loons.
