1940 Murder Mystery Solved on Stage

January 6, 2010

Set in a mansion in Chappaqua, NY, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 is a non-stop barrage of laughter as an array of characters, from a cowardly comedian to a Nazi saboteur, try to solve the mystery of the “Stage-Door Slasher” while avoiding becoming part of the body-count. The chaos begins when a creative team recovering from a recent Broadway flop, gathers at the wealthy estate of a possible “angel” to pitch a new show. Trapped by a snowstorm, panic, hilarity and pandemonium ensue as one by one members of the group begin to drop dead at the hands of a mysterious guest. Amidst the madness of swiveling bookcases, hidden passageways and missing meat cleavers the mystery is eventually solved, but not before the audience has enjoyed a side-splitting good time.

Taking the reins of this hilarious who-dun-it is Andy Baldwin, co-founder and Executive Artistic Director of the new Forum Theatre Company. Even though his schedule is full with board meetings, planning upcoming shows and many other commitments to Forum, he excitedly accepted Todd Hart’s invitation to direct for Theatre Arlington. “Todd is an incredible mentor and friend…any opportunity I have to work with Todd is time well spent,” said Baldwin.  He continues, “I feel this show is an opportunity to grow which in turn helps Forum Theatre grow. The more people in the community who know about Forum Theatre and our partnerships with all the Non-Profit Theatre Organizations in the Metroplex, the better we all are...it takes a village.  I hope I can bring fresh and exciting energy to TA after everything Todd and TA has done for Forum! The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940is Baldwin’s directorial debut at Theatre Arlington and his creative ideas for bringing the show to life are already causing buzz and excitement around Theatre Arlington.
