Dalton Sherman and Brother Demosthenes to Join Cast of Kids Who Care’s District XI - Believe in Me!

Sherman Brothers to Perform with Kids Who Care October 2 in Musical Inspired by Dalton’s Famous Speech

FORT WORTH, TX – September 22, 2009 – Kids Who Care, a non-profit international musical theatre company based in Fort Worth since 1989, today announced that Dalton Sherman and his brother, Demosthenes, are now members of the production’s cast of District XI - Believe in Me! and will be performing October 2 during the matinee and evening shows at The Scott Theatre.

District XI: Believe in Me! is an original musical inspired by the popular YouTube video Dalton Sherman’s acclaimed convocation speech to 20,000+ Dallas ISD teachers and staff last year, imploring them to believe in themselves and their students (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAMLOnSNwzA). Set in the halls and classrooms of elementary, middle and high schools, District XI - Believe in Me!, is a fun, timeless look at school. It also tackles current issues such as test-taking, labeling, recess reduction, bureaucracy and fitting in with others.

Since being the surprise keynote speaker at last year’s convocation held at the American Airlines Center, the YouTube video of Dalton’s speech has garnered more than a half-million views, and Dalton has delivered speeches throughout the country and made appearances on Oprah and Ellen.  Last week, he appeared on the Today Show as Jenna Bush Hager’s first interview as a correspondent for the show.

“We are thrilled that Dalton and Demosthenes have joined the cast of District XI – Believe in Me! and will appear in productions throughout the year as scheduling allows,” said Deborah Jung, founding executive director of Kids Who Care. “The Sherman brothers fit in perfectly with the other youth performers in our Resident Company – they’re just regular kids who like to perform. How fitting that the young boy who sparked this original musical will be playing himself in it as we kick off our Resident Company’s touring season!”

Matinee performances for District XI: Believe in Me! on October 2, 2009 are at 10:00 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.  Ticket prices are $12 for individuals and $5 each for groups of 10 or more. The evening performance of District XI: Believe in Me! on October 2 begins at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $15-$18 for individuals or $10 each for groups of 10 or more.  All shows will be presented at The Scott Theatre at 1300 Gendy Street in Fort Worth.
