Summer is traditionally a time for children, a time for kids to experience the out-doors, and for schools and organizations to offer summer camps. This is true for theater groups as well and CATS plans three theater productions which all ages of children love during the three summer months.
Lyle the Crocodile will be produced during June 15-17 for three daytime shows and one Thursday night show. The play is based on the popular Lyle the Crocodile book series. The fictional series follows the life of Lyle, a city-dwelling crocodile, who lives in a Victorian brownstone with a family named the Primms. The story begins with Lyle and Mrs. Primms going shopping and running into their neighbor, Mr. Grumps. The grouchy Mr. Grumps finds Lyle a nuisance because Lyle scares his cat, Loretta, and he has him thrown in the zoo. When Lyle is freed by his old performing partner Mr. Valenti, they go back to the house on 88th Street, where they find Mr. Grumps’ house on fire. Lyle rescues Mr. Grumps, is declared a hero, and thus is allowed to stay with the Primms.
The next show is a result of CATS’ new summer musical theater camp, SummerStars Bound, for 8 - 12 year old students. Disney’s Aladdin Jr. will feature the kids from this workshop and play on-stage for three days, Tuesday - Thursday, July 6 - 8 for daytime shows and one show Thursday night.
The last of the summer day show series wrap up with Berenstain Bears showing August 3-5. This popular TV, movie and book series by the BerenStains has taught and entertained children for decades and now can be seen on-stage.
